Telephone Preference Service (TPS)

TPSThe Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile telephone numbers. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.

Organisations with which you have an ongoing relationship, for example those who regard you as a customer, (or in the case of charities - a donor) may well gather your consent during the early stages of your relationship with them and will therefore be entitled to call you even if your number is registered on TPS, unless you have previously told them specifically that you object to them calling you for marketing purposes.

Facsimile Preference Service (FPS)

TPSUnder Government legislation introduced on 1 May 1999 it is unlawful to send an individual an unsolicited sales and marketing fax without prior permission. Businesses have the opportunity to register fax numbers on which they do not wish to receive direct marketing faxes.

You can do this by registering with the Fax Preference Service. Although this Service is primarily aimed at businesses, as individuals have protection under the legislation, individuals may also register their fax numbers if they wish.

Before you apply however, you should be aware that registration may preclude you or your business from receiving information of value - thereby cutting you off from worthwhile business opportunities.

Mailing Preference Service (MPS)

TPSMailing Preference Service supports your right to choose the mail you want.

With UK consumers generating over £25 billion worth of postal sales per year, it's fair to say the majority welcome the information and special offers they receive by post. However, it's also understandable why some people might take a different view. The MPS is here to make your choice known - so you get the mail you want and need.

Unwanted, unread Direct Mail has no place in anyone's home. And if you're not interested in receiving it, we will update our records for Direct Mail companies to see and adjust their lists as you request.

Many of the people who register their preferences with us have suffered a bereavement, and they simply want to stop future commercial mailings from being sent to the deceased.

As responsible professionals, Direct Mail companies don't want to upset anyone or waste time sending marketing messages that are not welcome. They respect your choice too. Equally true, they want to be careful not to waste valuable paper and postage. So registering your choice helps them market considerately, ethically and economically.

E-Mailing Preference Service (E-MPS)

TPSDMA's eMail Preference Service (eMPS) allows consumers to indicate their wish to reduce the amount of unsolicited commercial email they receive.

The e-MPS suppression file consists of email addresses from consumers who have contacted the DMA and registered with E-mps in order to reduce the amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail.

All marketers who wish to send unsolicited commercial e-mail must purge their prospect e-mail lists of the individuals who have registered with e-MPS. Using e-MPS is not only good business, but is also a requirement for all DMA members under the Privacy Promise.

According to DMA guidelines an unsolicited email message should have two opt-out options:

Consumers may choose to opt out of receiving email from a specific marketer.
Consumers may opt out of having their email address rented or shared with other marketers.

Baby Mailing Preference Service (BMPS)

TPSThe Baby Mailing Preference Service is here to help reduce the number of baby-related mailings you receive.

Many parents to be are happy to hear from companies who can help them at this exciting time in their lives but in the sad circumstances of the death of a baby, mailings to parents about baby products from well meaning companies can cause unintended hurt.

That's why the Mailing Preference Service provides Baby MPS - a free service that is both sympathetic and effective.
