Logo Designs & Business Stationery Design

Is a brand a product, a service or a company? Is it a logo, a marketing strategy or an attitude?

A brand, or branding design, is a set of symbolic core values associated to a company, product or service, which in turn forms a corporate identity design. This corporate identity design is remembered by the audience/customer and lasts for many a year, sometimes even becoming a global super brand (such as Coca-Cola, Manchester United FC and even Mercedes Benz).

Logo design falls under the umbrella of branding design. Company logo design is very important – fundamentally, it’s what makes you stand out from the crowd. Logo designs engrave themselves into your potential customers’ minds. Your image says it all so the perfect logo design is integral to your business’s success. Why do I need a logo design?

Logo design can, to some people, seem a pointless endeavour. However, effective company logo design can make a big impact upon your business. If you are in business then you need customers. No matter what sector of business you cover, your customers need to be able to identify you. A business name is a start, but memory is better served with visual associations. If you are driving a car and someone asks you to stop, then you may do so. However, if you see a sign that says “STOP”, with bright red colouring, you visually associate with this and are ten times more likely to stop. This visual association is a key reason for effective logo design.

A company logo design will provide customers a visual association with your company. They will see it and recognise your identity. A company logo will be the main focus of your corporate identity design and a customer can make a judgement, as to the quality of your company, based upon the impact of your logo.

In modern life, but particularly business, image is paramount. If a company logo design is effective, then it can help sell the products or services that are offered by that company. If a logo is poorly designed, the effectiveness is reduced and it can give the appearance of an unprofessional company.

What makes a good logo design?

If you have ever looked at a logo and wondered “what makes that so good?”, then there are some important points to bear in mind.

Logo design plays an important part in creating the image of any business. It is often one of the first things that a customer, or prospective customer, may see. If your company’s logo is well presented and memorable, then it is more likely to have a positive impact on the customer. They are likely to remember the company and associate it with a specific logo design.

Logo design isn’t necessarily a simple process. A logo designer needs to ensure that the logo can be described verbally, as if not it is unlikely to be remembered. In essence a logo needs to be simple in appearance, but at the same time it must be appropriate to the business. Design a logo to be appropriate to a company can sometimes mean that it is not simple. If a designer is able to achieve the right balance between complexity and simplicity, this will make them stand out from the crowd.

A creative logo designer must be able to assess the business, or person, for whom they are designing. Making the logo design relevant to the company’s particular business sector, or market, is vital. If the logo designer does not hit the mark with the concept, it is altogether possible that people may not associate it with the type of business they are looking for and therefore disregard it.

As well as being appropriate to the business, and its relevant market, the logo design must be functional and effective at any size. It is all well and good that a logo looks good on the side of a van, or the front of a building, but can it be scaled down to an appropriate size for business stationary? Is it as effective when viewed on a t-shirt, or a website?

Where can a logo be used?

Logos can be used in many places. They can form the basis for shop fronts, or signage; be the focus of a t-shirt or other apparel; even the advert on the side of a van. However, one of the most common places to find a logo is on business stationary.

Business stationary is one of the most visible and vital facets of any business. All companies send letters to customers. If the letter is sent on headed paper, it can appear more professional and have greater impact when viewed. Business cards are a common marketing tool for business and a cleverly designed business card can prove extremely useful to customers, as they can be kept in purses or wallets for future reference.

Business stationery design is intrinsically linked with logo design. A company logo must be appropriately scaled and married with relevant business information. This marriage forms the basis of business stationery design. Items such as business cards, letterheads and compliment slips all feature company branding design, amalgamated into stationery design.
